January 2007

This post is for the more technologically illiterate members of our family for whom this site is a bit confusing!

First, the site is composed of two primary sections — the blog (which you are reading) and the photo gallery.

When you come to ScottAniol.com, you automatically see the blog. Here is where we will post family updates, etc. You can subscribe to receive an email each time a post is added to the blog by typing your email address in the box marked “Subscribe for Updates” in the right column of this page. We will also post on the blog each time pictures are added to the photo gallery, so if you are subscribed, you will be notified of that as well. When you click on a picture or a link to an album in a blog post, you are automatically taken to the photo gallery.

To survey the photo gallery yourself, simply click “Pics” on the top menu bar or “Pictures” in the right column. You will immediately see a list of photo albums organized with the most recently added albums at the top of the page. Simply click on an album to view its contents.

When you click on an album, you will find yourself in thumbnail view. Here you will see small samples of each picture. Often albums have multiple pages, so be sure to click on the page numbers at the bottom to view subsequent pages.

To view a picture larger, simply click on its thumbnail. You now find yourself in image view. At the top of the view, you will find the following icons:

This will take you back to thumbnail view.

This will display image information below each picture such as file type and size.

This button will allow you to view the whole album as a slide show.

You can email a link to this image with this button.

Use these buttons to scroll through the images in an album.

Each image page also has a handy film strip beneath the picture that tells you what images are coming next. Use the far left image or far right image to scroll — clicking on one of the center images will keep the film strip in the same place.

You also have opportunity to comment on each picture on this page!

Note for saving images: Do not save an image for printing purposes in this view — the image resolution is too small. Click the image one more time to view its larger size. Once the new window has opened, simply right click and select “Save Image As” to save the image to your hard drive.

The Gallery Menu in the right column has some other helpful tools as well, such as Last uploads, Last comments, Most viewed, etc. To go back to the main gallery page, simply click Album list.

If you have any further questions about how this site works, please let us know!

We had a little photo shoot with Betsy. View the album here.

I’ve uploaded pics from Betsy’s camera, including six video clips. Simply click on the “AVI” icons. They take some time to load, so be patient!

We’ve taken plenty of pictures that certainly only family will want to scroll through! View the album here.

On another note, his jaundice is still higher, but Dr. Baptist says it’s not too bad. We’re scheduled for another appointment with him on Monday to decide if anything needs to be done.

Here is a description of the day’s events as recorded in text messages sent to family members throughout the day:

2:00am - [Becky's water broke]

2:35am - [Phone calls to family on the way to the hospital]

6:04am - They’re giving her Pitocin to help encourage labor.

6:55am - They just told us to plan for a long day. Probably a bed time delivery.

10:38am - Not quite 2 cm. Just gave her narcotic for pain. Cervix has thinned 50 per cent. Contractions at 3 min intervals.

11:08am - Drugs working like a charm. She’s basically sleeping through contractions.

11:36am - 2cm. 70 per cent thinned. Second dose of drugs. Epidural probably next (1 hour). Then sleep (for both of us!)

1:10pm - 3cm. 90 per cent.

2:40pm - If everything goes normal, they anticipate 1cm per hour, which puts 10cm at 8:00, with an additional possible 2 hours of pushing…

2:41pm - …so we’re in this for the long haul. She’s sleeping now with a nice epidural.

3:20pm - Good news. She’s at 5 cm already and 100 per cent. The midwife said there’s a slim possibility to have Caleb by 5 or 6!

4:17pm - Plus 1 station. 6cm.

5:56pm - 9cm. Plus 1 station.

6:02pm - He’s gonna have a cone head. [The midwife felt it.]

6:37pm - Pushing now. [This was the quick prearranged phrase to let family who were in town know that they should start coming to the hospital. I had it all ready and pre-programmed into the phone so that I could just hit "Send" when she was ready.]

8:18pm - Caleb is here! [He was born at 7:39, but I had some videoing, photographing, cutting, loving, and supporting to do before I could take the time to send the message!]

Here are some pics of Caleb’s first evening at home.

All the pictures from the past 3 days are posted. They’re a little out of sequence, so I’ll try to get them in order some time soon. But for right now, I’m a bit distracted!

Here is the album.
